2023 Chinese free course plan

1. Each student needs to purchase a set of textbooks (textbook and exercise book) before the course starts. The cost is £48.50, plus £6.50 for second-class registered postage, a total of £55.00 pounds.

The entire free course is divided into two short courses:

The first six weeks are from 13th August to 17th September, learning 72 Chinese characters;

The second six weeks are from 5th November to 10th December, studying 72 Chinese characters.

In the whole course, 144 Chinese characters out of the 178 Chinese characters in the book should be learned.

2. Learn one hour each time on Sunday in the first six weeks. In 60 minutes, you have to learn to listen, speak, read, and writing of 12 Chinese characters.

3. Every time before learning a new lesson, your teacher will make a dictation, that the 12 Chinese characters of the previous lesson you have studied.

4. There is no class for six weeks between the two short courses, and students are required to use this short time to review the 72 Chinese characters they have learned. (Suggestion: Based on our experience, one of the ways to review is to find a friend or colleague of yours and treat him/her as your student. Because while you are teaching, you are reviewing the Chinese characters you have already learned.

5. On the first day of the second short course, on Sunday 5th November, the teacher will take a dictation test: choose 30 words from the 72 words you have learned.

6. After the second short course is finished, if you want to continue, we will tell you when school will start in January 2024 before Christmas this year.

RECOMMENDATION

Zoom In TDR Chinese Course What do you do if you have too busy a life and just a few weeks to learn the basics of the Chinese language? That’s a question that I have asked myself over the last few years. As I work a lot with Chinese colleagues, I always feel so embarrassed not to be able to say something in Mandarin. I spent a while checking available courses in different countries that I could take for a fortnight in the summer. I came across Meridian Chinese Studies at random and was quickly seduced by how the methods that were used to teach Chinese were described on their website. When the course started, my Chinese was nearly non-existent. After a week, I was already able to say many things, to read short texts and to write a few sentences. Incredible! The approach is excellent! Very intensive but worth it! My teacher, David Su, has a long experience in teaching Chinese and he knows what works. He also knows how to adapt his teaching to different students and different levels. The book TDR Zoom for Beginners is well planned and so much better than the hundreds of textbooks that I have bought in the past. Its progression and coherence are clear and well thought of. Though I used to dislike drills I found the ones included in the books to be very useful. I recommend this course without any hesitation. In two weeks I have gained a strong basis that will allow me to continue to study Chinese on my own during my busy days.
